Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) is a millionaire frivolous something that is about to marry a suitor who only seeks to benefit from their money. During a discussion in the family yacht, altered Ellie jumps overboard and escaped. Take a bus to New York, where he had to meet her boyfriend. But along the way he meets reporter Peter Warne (Clark Gable), who has just become unemployed. Warne recognizes it immediately and decides to follow to get the exclusive story of the millionaire fugitive.
